The Department of Civil Aviation, Malaysia initiated Malaysia Air Festival in conjunction with the Centennial Celebration of Aviation in Malaysia. The first of which will take place in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah International Airport, hosted by Subang Skypark in the month of November 2011. The next destination of Malaysia Air Festival is Melaka International Airport scheduled for June 2012. Unlike the EAA Airventure Oshkosh, held at Oshkosh in Wisconsin which is dubbed the 'World's Greatest Aviation Celebration' and having the worlds busiest airport during their event, Malaysia Air Festival will move from location to location within Malaysia to promote General Aviation and bring the industry closer to the people. Malaysia Air Festival intends to garner the same spirit as EAA Airventure Oshkosh over the years to come and make it an event to be reckoned with in the Asian region.
This year more than fifty aircraft are expected to take part in this event which will also have aerial activities amongst others, single aircraft aerobatics display, the Malaysian Formation Aerobatics Team (Keris Sakti), Dog Fight Display and former elite Paskal (Paratrooper) jumpers taking to the skies.
On the tarmac, visitors get up close to some of the latest New Generation general aviation aircraft such as Cirrus, PC12 by Pilatus, Cessna Grand Caravan, Diamond Aircraft, Cessnas, Piper Aircraft and more. Rotor Wing aircraft better known as S91 from Sikorsky, Robinson Helicopters, A variety of Eurocopter and Augusta Westland models.
The mini aviation expo positioned within the terminal building will have within its booths on the mezzanine floor, the 100 Years of Aviation Pictorial Journey brought in by the New Straits Times Press archives centre. There will also be talks on aviation topics such as how to become a pilot, aircraft engineer, air traffic controller, aircraft technician or even a flight instructor. There will be interesting live demonstrations for children and adults alike on the Subang Skypark entertainment stage found on the ground floor. For a fee, visitors can also enjoy the show in the mini planetarium beside the information and ticketing counter.
